Sean turns 5, stitches, swimming, & school.

My handsome little devil is growing up so fast. I think Sean has changed more this year than any other year. Not only does he look like a little boy and not a toddler, but he has also started to act more grown up. He just started calling me "mom" instead of "mama or mommy" which is a little sad.

We just celebrated his 5th birthday with all of my family that were in town for the weekend. When we were picking out a birthday theme, his favorite movie was Finding Nemo. That week we took him to a drive in to see Toy Story 3 which quickly became the favorite. We compromised with Nemo decorations and cake and Toy Story presents.

Kate got quite a haul for no reason except that I can't stand listening to them fight over the new toys. Much easier to buy 2 of everything to begin with.

Up until he was introduced to Buzz and Woody, nothing compared to a great white shark. We got many shark presents too. This extra large shark was brought to us by Aunt Em, of course.

There's so much to say about Sean, I hardly know where to start. He is as sweet as he is spoiled, but the sweetness far outweighs the little stinker in him. He always does nice things for everyone like bringing Kate her blankies, carrying in the groceries, giving us hugs and kisses out of nowhere, and always saying, "I love you" first. He is the best snuggle buddy around. He likes to snuggle with Dada while falling asleep to Alice in Wonderland, but always make sure that Mom will come get him in a little bit. He loves watching Kate wake up and says sweet things like, "Good morning beautiful, did you have a good sleepy?"

He's also the funniest kid I know. He loves Michael Jackson and has gotten quite a few moves down. Although Randy made a huge effort to get him to like the drums, he keeps asking if he can take dance lessons so he can dance like MJ. I'm trying to find him a cool hip hop class. We'll see how that goes. He is obsessed with shark shirts. Last time I counted he had over 20, but it's probably at least 30 by now. Every time we go to any store he will try to find some kind of clothing section and can sniff out a shark a mile a way. Nothing, and I mean nothing brings that kid more joy than finding a shark shirt. He's turned into quite the shopper for not letting me shop his entire first 3 years of life.

If you need help finding anything on the internet, he's your man. He will spend hours searching his favorite things. I can barely get my work done, and I feel like I have to sneak on the computer before he finds me. I think we're going to have to monitor that soon, but for now it has really taught him some great skills and helped him lear how to read and spell. He easily knows more about electronics than I do.

Sean is the best little boy and I love him more every day. Happy Birthday bud.

As for other news this month...

Sean started preschool today. It was such a relief to have him excited to go, as opposed to all the tears last year. He is sporting his newest shark shirt from Aunt Em, a Cars bandaid on this poor chin (story to follow), and his new Challenger bag.

If you read my last entry, you'll know how much fun we haven't had this summer, so I figured I might as well volunteer to have the primary party at my house. It's not like things could get any worse. I nearly died trying to put this together, but all 50 kids had a blast. There wasn't a single tear nor fight. Just plain wet, summer fun. I probably won't volunteer next year, but I have to say I pulled off quite the party.

Keeping with our summer theme of bad meets worse, we took our office up to Park City for a summer office party. It has become tradition to get everyone a room and meet for dinner. My kids were so excited to go up the mountain and go swimming. We checked in and immediately changed into swim suits. We were at the pool for a whole 5 minutes when Sean stepped backward into a pool behind him and hit his chin on the side of the pool. He came up with his chin ripped wide open. I could see his jaw bone and the fat in his skin pouring out. It was the most horrible thing I have ever seen. We spent the next 5 hours in the ER (thank you Park City for building a new hospital just in time for us). Sean had to be sedated and have 17 stitches in his chin. I am crushed his perfect little face will have a scar on it. Needless to say we missed dinner, called in a credit card to pick up the tab, and went home the next morning. What a waste.

There is a sliver of good summer news! The kids started swimming lessons and the both love it. It is the one thing we can look forward to every week. Since this post is all about Seaners, I'm just putting up his pictures. He can float by himself and swim a few feet now. He loves diving for rockets and picking up rings. I'm so proud of him. We have enrolled for year round lessons. I figure why stop the only thing that makes both of them happy, and that they can do at the same time?

Great post Melissa. Sean is looking like a "big boy" and sorry to hear that he just got stitches! Can't believe he is 5! Jack did something similar (split chin) a couple weeks back, but they glued it together (maybe 3 stitches). Good to see you are all happy and healthy. Kids look great! So cute! Send my best to Doc and best regards to you too. I hope your summer has been better (after mad rush at the beginning of summer).
