The newest family members.
As I was saying about 4 months ago, the camping trip really rocked this boat. After we set the frogs free and were met with the saddest faces ever, I told the kids we would go to the pet store and get some pet frogs that we could actually care for and wouldn't die on us. I mean how hard could a pet frog be, right? Well as we entered Petsmart, we walked by 2 adorable kittens that were up for adoption. Kate immediately changed her mind. "I don't want a frog, I want a kitten!" The kitten there just happened to be a boy orange tabby, and I always said that I would never have another cat that wasn't a male orange tabby. They are genetically good cats, and I speak from lots of experience. So I entertained the idea since Jay did seem lonely lately. We first went to the frog tanks to pick out a frog for Sean, where we learned that frogs are very social, and we need to have at least 3 frogs to make a little froggie family. Whatever. $75 later, we have frogs and a tank. Yay! Their names are Froggo, Frogless, and Jumping Bean. We will later discover we have 1 girl and 2 boys. You don't want to know how we know this.
Moving on to the kitten. Once I caved and said maybe we could get a kitten, we were definitely getting a kitten. Kate talked about it nonstop. Unfortunately the kitten at the pet store was really scruffy, and not soft at all. He was older too, and Kate wanted a really little kitten. So I looked up every adoption agency online and found the perfect orange kitten. I filled out the application and was denied since I had Jay declawed. Seriously? They aren't going to give me a kitten? It would be a kitten's dream to come live with us. So I went to the animal shelter. There were many kittens, but they were all wild, crazy, scratchy kittens. Not one of them wanted to be held. The last resort was KSL adds. Surely there were thousands of West Valley kittens that needed a home. (No offense to those who live in West Valley.) Well, sure enough there was an adorable fluffy orange kitten just 8 weeks old looking for a home. I tried to call, but the person couldn't speak english, they could text though. Great, I started texting. Want to make sure it is short hair and a male. Yes, yes, boy cat, very short hair. Perfect. I dropped Sean off for his first day of school and told Kate to put on her bullet proof vest cause we were going to the ghetto to get her a freaking cat. I gave my mom the address in case no one ever heard from me again. We drove into the most run down neighborhood I've seen in a long time. Kate kept asking why the houses looked so sad. Well we found the house and the cat lady and oh dear! She brought a handful of fluff balls out and Kate was in love. I checked every one of them trying to find the boy, but nope, not one in the bunch...and definitely not short hair. Too late, Kate was in love, and we were taking one of these little rug rats home. Meet Sunflowers.
....she is the worst kitten ever. Kate loves her, I love Kate, Sunflowers is here to stay. Good thing cats only live 20 years. Let's see, bar stools...ruined, leather chair we've kept in mint condition for 10 years...ruined, dining room chairs that go with our extra large table...ruined. Thanks Blue Lake, let me make sure to never go there again!
